The Allen Street Poutine Company, a new restaurant in Buffalo, N.Y., brings the flavourful awesomeness of a Canadian staple to the Allentown area. They wanted to create a bold experience and an aggressive brand that stood out from the surrounding eateries.
The goal was to give Allen Street Poutine a local, rustic look, so the restaurant’s interior and its identity were developed with an urban philosophy. To bring an inner city atmosphere to the interior, we used wood textures, black metal, white subway tiles, and graffiti. To take it to another level, we decided the restaurant needed a main attraction, so we commissioned a large broadway-style sign people instantly fell in love with.
While creating the logo and identity, I chose to use a minimal colour palette combined with kraft paper for the menus and marketing materials. Allentown is known for its community of artists and embracing bohemian and hipster culture, so after tons of research, the primary logo was designed in a way that pays respect to the Allentown Historic District and the heritage that comes with it. By using weathered fonts and various textures throughout the assets, I was able to utilize the paper’s qualities to really give it that extra grit.
